Invicta FC is targeting Cris Cyborg for a fight with Cindy Dandois on Jan. 16, according to Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp, but Cyborg herself says nothing is signed.
Knapp revealed the booking plans for the next Invicta FC event, Invicta FC 15, on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. However, Cyborg said there’s been confusion and multiple changes, and she says she hasn’t yet agreed to the planned 140 lb. catchweight.
@InvictaFights @DandoisCindy It was not signed any agreement about this fight at 140. it’s been 3 times that are changing the date of event
— Cris Cyborg (@criscyborg) November 23, 2015
The event is being targeted for Costa Mesa, Calif., and will be headlined by a Strawweight Title fight between Livia Renata Souza and DeAnna Bennett. It will also feature TUF and UFC vets Lisa Ellis and Angela Hill, who take on Amber Brown and Jodie Esquibel, respectively. The event will air live on UFC Fight Pass.
Penick’s Analysis: Cyborg’s first move down from 145 lbs. was supposed to happen in December, only to get pushed back, and it appears that’s not on her. Now, she still may make that attempt, but if she’s not given enough time to safely make the move then that’s on Invicta for jerking her around on a date and location. I’d expect we’ll see it eventually get signed, but they’re making announcements without having things set, following in the UFC’s lead.
