It was far from an easy victory, but Joanna Jedrzejczyk defended her UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship against Valerie Letourneau on Saturday night at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia.
The first two rounds were fairly competitive, with Letourneau proving to be a tough and durable opponent, but Jedrzejczyk took over during the final 15 minutes to take a clear decision.
One of the biggest moments of the fight came in the opening round, with Jedrzejczyk landing a vicious front kick to the face, but Letourneau continued to press in. Jedrzejczyk was just faster, and struck in combinations while busting up the lead leg of the challenger. That was the story for much of the 25-minute bout, and Jedrzejczyk busted up the challenger’s face in the process as well.
It all led to two scores of 49-46, and one clean sweep at 50-45 for the Polish Champion, who now has two title defenses under her belt.
