Tyron Woodley says his next fight will be a title defense rematch against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC 209 on March 4 in Las Vegas, Nev. He announced the fight on his podcast, “The Morning Wood Show with Deez Nuts.” Woodley retained his title against Thompson is a dramatic title defense at UFC 205 that ruled a majority draw.
Keller’s Analysis: Some people aren’t big on rematches. I find myself, even when a fight isn’t as good as Woodley-Thompson, wanting to see a rematch to see what adjustments a fighter might make to counter another fighter’s approach that led to their defeat. With Woodley vs. Thompson, I just want to see rounds six through ten (or six through whatever) of those two going at it again, especially since the first fight was hardly decisive. Given the “majority draw” ruling, if there has ever been a case for a rematch in a title fight, when a champion retains his title against a challenge, this is it. This is immensely better than Woodley vs. Michael Bisping in a non-title pseudo-superfight, as speculated about. Not only all of that, but UFC needs to get back in the business of having title fights more often in all divisions.
