JOSE ALDO WRONG GUY TO BE COMPLAINING, SAYS HOLLOWAY
Top ranked featherweight Max Holloway was not shy about his feelings for Jose Aldo.
In an interview with MMAFighting, Holloway expressed his anger for Aldo’s calls for an immediate release from his contract after it was announced that Conor McGregor would be fighting Eddie Alvarez. He cited Aldo’s penchant for pulling out of multiple events as the reason why the UFC owes him nothing. “People keep saying Aldo deserves this, he deserves that. How the hell do you deserve something when you pulled out of all these events?”
Holloway claimed that Aldo has been a greater disservice than an asset to the UFC over the years and that his calls for a rematch are unwarranted. “People keep forgetting the past, of what Aldo did,” he said. “How many times did he screw the UFC getting hurt and not fighting in the event and the UFC scrambling around and they’ve got to find new fighters for the event or scratch his fight? People say 13 seconds. Who the f— wants to see the rematch after 13 seconds? I sure as hell don’t want to see it.”
Holloway is currently on a nine fight win streak and has been clamoring for a rematch with Conor McGregor with the title on the line.
Cervantes Analysis: Holloway does have some valid points about Aldo’s propensity to pull out of fights. It makes sense that the UFC is less inclined to grant Aldo a title shot as they would run the risk of investing millions of dollars in promoting the fight only to have Aldo pull out at the last minute. Holloway is also right about the fact that having lost in 13 seconds, people may not be pining for such a quick rematch given the way the first fight went.
