Bellator 257 Review

175 Lb. Contract-Weight Feature Fight
Sabah Homasi vs. Paul Daley

This was a crazy fight that started very intense right out of the gate. Homasi almost got a KO in the first but Daley somehow survived. The second round was pretty even as well until Daley landed a few good shots. He put down Homasi and added another win to his incredibly impressive record.

Rating: 8/10
Result: 2nd Rd TKO for Paul Daley

Flyweight Feature Fight
Desiree Yanez vs. Veta Arteaga

The first round was back and forth enough until Yanez got control on the ground to end the round. The second round was decidedly different as Arteaga took control early and had control on the ground for an extended period. The ref called for a stoppage after some knees to the head were hit and a point was taken from Arteaga. The round ended with some solid shots landed by Arteaga. The third round seemed to go to Arteaga but Yanez certainly got her licks in. The eyes test went to Arteaga but her bloody nose might have been enough of a visual to hurt her chances along with her lost point.

Rating: 8/10
Result: Majority Decision for Veta Arteaga

Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Opening Round
Dolvetdzhan Yagshimuradov vs. Corey Anderson

DG seemed just a little bit too calm in this one. He seemed to be waiting for Anderson to give him an opening that never came. Anderson picked his spot, stayed alive, and found a way to be even more calmed down than a man that’s known for basically not having a heartbeat. The Light Heavyweight Grand Prix is going to be a fun tournament.
Rating: 8.5/10
Result: 3rd Round TKO for Corey Anderson

Light Heavyweight Championship
Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Opening Round
Vadim Nemkov vs. Phil Davis

The first three rounds of this fight were a combination of feeling out and trying to create openings. Both fighters had their shots in, but there didn’t seem to be a clear advantage except for Nemkov getting the fight to the ground. Nemkov seemed to keep control in the championship rounds as well. Davis wasn’t able to get any meaningful offense going. Nemkov clearly beat out Davis on the scorecard.

Rating: 6/10
Result: Vadim Nemkov Retains his Light Heavyweight Championship by Unanimous Decision
