Conor McGregor has a date for his next fight-now he just needs an opponent.
In a press event in Moscow, McGregor revealed that his next fight will be Jan 18, in Las Vegas.
McGregor went on the elaborate that he plans to fight three times in 2019.
Shortly after McGregor made the announcement, Ariel Helwani of ESPN provided context to the situation.
On Twitter, Helwani reported that the fight is not officially signed, but Justin Gaethje and Donald Cerrone are likely opponents. Helwani noted that Cerrone is the currently the frontrunner.
Conor McGregor announces at a press conference in Moscow this AM that he has agreed to return to action on Jan. 18 in. T-Mobile. He did not name the opponent. Fight isn’t signed. Two leading candidates are Cerrone and Gaethje. Cerrone is the frontrunner at this time, I’m told.

And if Khabib wins versus Ferguson, he really wants the rematch in Moscow, I’m told.

Yesterday, McGregor stated that he had attempted to fight in December, but the UFC was preventing his return.
McGregor last fought in the at UFC 229 in October 2018, where he submitted to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Since his last fight, McGregor has created legal turmoil for himself. On two occasions McGregor has been the subject of physical assault charges. And recently, The New York Times named Conor McGregor as a subject of a sexual assault investigation for the second time in less than a year.
