ROUNDTABLE: Staff predictions for Greg Hardy vs. Dmitrii Smoliakov

By Michael Hiscoe, Managing Editor

Who wins Saturday’s fight between Greg Hardy and Dmitrii Smoliakov?

Patrick Shaheen, Host – MMA Scope Podcast

Smoliakov is 9-2 with 9 finishes. I hope he kills Greg Hardy so this whole embarrassing chapter of the UFC’s history can be forgotten. If I’m breaking this fight down. Hardy has one path to victory, a first round KO. Smoliakov brings a lot more experience to the Octagon and I hope that shows come Saturday. Dmitrii stops Hardy in the 2nd, KO, TKO, submission I could care less.

I’ll go with Hardy by TKO in the first round. I don’t know much about Smoliakov other than he has a 9-2 record and his nickname is The Lifeguard. Anything can happen, but I would think Hardy would rush him and end up getting the stoppage after landing some huge punches.

I don’t really care for this fight. I’m not watching it. As for who I think wins, I think UFC is trying to feed Greg Hardy an easy win, so I mean I guess I’ll pick Greg Hardy, but he could gas and be tossed around or could get himself DQ’d again. So I’ll go Hardy, but who knows.

Sean Covington, Columnist – Covington’s Corner

After the way Greg Hardy lost, I expect him to be very hesitant in his fights from here on out. If Hardy is unphased by what transpired his last fight then he will probably walk through Dmitrii Smoliakov. Dmitrii’s only 2 loses came within his last 3 fights, one being a TKO; I don’t see Smoliakov being able to take the power of Greg Hardy. In other words, only Greg Hardy can beat Greg Hardy.

I think Hardy will win this fight. If he doesn’t, they really need to end this experiment because all it has done is harm goodwill between fans and the promotion every time he fights. Hardy has power, we know that. Hopefully, he’s improved his endurance a bit. If he has, he’ll take a second-round TKO.
