Thank u, next
Jon Jones isn’t going to let himself get sucked into an online war of words with Israel Adesanya any longer. The UFC light heavyweight champ sent out a series of tweets Monday criticizing the new interim middleweight champ but also saying that he’s done with it. The tweets have since been deleted, so it seems that Jones plans to keep his word.
During the build-up to UFC 236, Adesanya commented on how he had already defeated one of the greatest of all time in Anderson Silva, and that another GOAT contender, namely Jones, may also be in his sights. Jones did not take well to this.
“Bro how are you going to call me out talking about your “hunting the goat,” and then call me a bully for replying to you?” Jones said in one of the since-deleted tweets. “You sound like you know you can’t beat me right now, so if that’s the case, keep my name out your mouth and we won’t have these problems.”
Jones didn’t appreciate that Adesanya seemed to start the talk about a potential fight between the two, but once Jones inserted himself into the conversation, Adesanya seemed to back off.
“He doesn’t even have to show respect if he doesn’t want to, just don’t back down once you’re addressed next time,” Jones said. “Kind of makes you look like a lil bitch real talk”
And finally, Jones decided to put the talk to rest with one final tweet.
“Next topic, I won’t even reply to his response. He’s alright shown me his stripes… Ain’t Ready.”
It’s debatable whether Adesanya is ready or not. Jones is a light heavyweight, who has the potential for a run at heavyweight while Adesanya is a lanky middleweight who seems right at home at 185, and doesn’t appear to cut a lot of weight to get there. With that in mind, any talk of a fight between the two is likely pointless. There are many comparisons you can make stylistically between Jones and Adesanya. It’s probably best left at that rather than trying to push them into a fight with each other.
