It’s been a mystery how ONE Championship planned to use their new acquisitions Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez. That question has now been answered as ONE has announced that Johnson and Alvarez will be featured in flyweight and lightweight Grand Prix tournaments, respectively.
The announcement was made through ONE’s Twitter page early Wednesday morning. A press conference to announce the tournaments and promote Friday’s “Heart of the Lion” card will take place later today. Both Johnson and Alvarez will be present. Free agent Sage Northcutt is rumored to be in attendance as well.

Each tournament will feature eight fighters and take place throughout 2019. No dates for Johnson or Alvarez’s fights have been announced, but details could be shared at the press conference.

Demetrious Johnson was acquired by ONE last month in a trade with UFC that sent welterweight standout Ben Askren to UFC. Eddie Alvarez was signed as a free agent in a deal Alvarez claims exceeds 8-figures.
