UFC FIGHT NIGHT 120 PREDICTIONS: Covington’s predictions for the Poirier vs. Pettis headlined card

BY SEAN COVINGTON, MMA TORCH CONTRIBUTOR

Prelims

John Dodson vs. Marlon Moraes

John Dodson gave DJ a run for his money but that was a while ago and he’s been trying to get back ever since. I believe Dodson will finally get back in title contention after a knock out win over Marlon Moraes.

Tatiana Suarez vs. Viviane Pereira

Viviane Pereira will keep her perfect record and put a stain on Tatiana’s with her first L. This will probably be very formulaic, but not boring for purist.

Sage Northcutt vs. Michel Quiones

Sage Northcutt is a little b****. I hate him so I hope he loses. I don’t think “Capo” cares about “Super” Sage being the wannabe face of the company. Even with my bias I believe Michael Quinones has what it takes to put Sage away.

Angela Hill vs. Nina Ansaroff

I’m not really sensing a favorite here. Nina Ansaroff has some slight advantages but not enough to pick her. Angela Hill in a split decision seems like the only way this one can go down.

Main Card

Nate Marquardt vs. Cezar Ferreira

38-18 I’d definitely call that a career. A guy being 12-6 is not going to be the guy to retire him though, especially when he wins mostly by decision. I like Nate to win this by knockout.

Raphael Assuncao vs. Matthew Lopez

Assauncao, submission (rear naked choke) in the first after a silly mistake by Matthew Lopez.

Joe Lauzon vs. Clay Guida

They should just call this the retirement card. I admire both men’s grit. They have been through war after war and really kept the UFC interesting. With that said, Clay Guida is going to bleed all over the Octagon. They will give all they have leading to a unanimous decision for Guida. Guida stays active, it’s what he’s known for. I’ve seen Joe Lauzon phone it in before. Should be a decent fight. I hope they both hang it up very soon.

Junior Albini vs. Andrei Arlovski

Arlovski by decision over Junior”Baby” by (T)KO. Arlovski needs to go to Bellator and get himself a deal like Rampage.

Matt Brown vs. Diego Sanchez

20-16… get this guy out of the Octagon! How is Matt Brown vs. anyone this high up on any card?!

Dustin Poirier vs. Sergio Pettis

Man, this is a tough call. I’ll go with Poirier. Pettis just can’t seem to get back to championship form although he has looked close to it. We will see if Pettis can keep his UFC career alive after this decision loss.
