Dana White sets deadline for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight

The Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor match up has been one of the hottest topics in all of combat sports as of late and, after all the trash talk, it appears we might not even see it happen.

Recently speaking on The Jim Rome Show, Dana White stated that if he could not get the details ironed out with McGregor’s team by Sunday, then he would move onto something else. He stated that if he could smooth things out with the McGregor, he would then shift his focus to dealing with Floyd. He went on to mention that he has a business to run, and he couldn’t continue to put all his focus on just this one fight. It’s unclear what the holdup is at this point, but it’s probably safe to say that it’s money related.

Henry’s Analysis: You hear one thing one day, and another thing the next. Following the announcement that Canelo Alvarez would be facing Gennady Golovkin later this year in September, White stated that he has “lost his date” for the Mayweather-McGregor fight, leading some to believe that it was imminent. Sometimes he speaks as if the fight is inevitable, and at other times he sounds less than optimistic. At this point I’m unsure of what to expect, and I feel like those involved probably feel the same way.

Jared Gordon out of UFC 211

Jared Gordon has announced that his UFC debut will be postponed due to “food poising” symptoms. He was scheduled to face Michel Quinones.

Gokhan Saki rumored to have signed UFC deal

Former Glory Light-heavyweight Champion, Gokhan Saki, is rumored to have signed a 4-fight deal with the UFC. Nothing is official, but if he does debut, fans will have a chance to see what a high-level strike can do in today’s MMA landscape. If he has been working on grappling, he will come into the UFC as somewhat of a complete fighter.

Jose Aldo injured?

Former Featherweight king Jose Aldo scared a few of his friends and perhaps the UFC brass when he announced that he suffered a cut in training recently that required 12 stitches. Despite his reputation for pulling out of fights, that will not be the case here, and he has indicated that it will not affect his upcoming title defense against Interim Champion Max Holloway.

Dana White will meet with Anderson Silva

It was noted last week that Anderson Silva was unhappy with his current place in the company and wanted an interim title shot or he would retire. Dana White’s response was perhaps not what The Spider was expecting. He stated that if retirement was on the former champion’s mind, then he should probably go through with it. Obviously, Silva was less than amused, and even announced that he was “done.” But it appears after a few nights of sleeping on it, White has changed his tune and stated today that he would talk to Silva soon in hopes of smoothing things out.
