MCGREGOR FIRED UP

Ahead of the UFC’s historic debut in New York on Saturday night at UFC 205, featherweight champion Conor McGregor has high expectations and is already envisioning his future as a potential dual champion.

McGregor was fired up during the open workouts this week and commented on what Saturday night would hold in store for his legacy. “Saturday night I’ll be immortal,” McGregor said. “I get the second belt, raise it up, never been done before. It means absolutely everything to me. It’s my life’s work. We’re ready.”

McGregor, now in his fourth fight in under a year, believes that based on the bouts he has been involved in that he has a clear path to victory and is confident he has many ways of making this dream a reality. “I feel I can do it many ways,” he said. “I can paint a picture inside that Octagon. All you need to do is look at my previous fights. They’re all different.”

UFC 205 is one of the most highly anticipated events in Mixed Martial Arts history and takes place at the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Cervantes Analysis: Say what you will about the man, there’s something about McGregor that makes you believe in him. In under a year, he has accomplished more than some of the sports most respected fighters and champions and is now on the precipice of making history. He will headline the biggest event in UFC history and will have an opportunity to walk of of the Garden as dual champion, a feat no other fighter has accomplished. It will be no easy task to get past Eddie Alvarez, but I wouldn’t be the least but surprised to see McGregor find a way to do it.

FRIDAY NOTEBOOK ITEMS…

-Dana White told TMZ that Donald Trump said he’d attend UFC 205 if he won the election. He added: “I don’t think Donald really realized what his duties were gonna be had he won. I think he’s meeting with [President] Obama today and then I don’t know. We’ll see, man.” Dana White said celebrities he does expect to be at Saturday’s event are Zac Efron, Hugh Jackman, and Daniel Craig.

-Aside from McGregor’s usual news conference antics, all eyes were on his outfit … which featured what he claims to be an all white Gucci mink. PETA’s Senior Vice President, Lisa Lange, took notice … and called out the Notorious for his fashion choice. “There are few things more out of touch than draping yourself in the skins of animals who were beaten, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for their fur,” Lange says. “Real men leave the beatings in the ring — and fight, not support, animal abuse.”

-According to MMAFighting, Eddie Alvarez said he’d “beat scrawny Irishman” Conor McGregor at UFC 205.

-In an interview with MMAJunkie, Chris Weidman commented on UFC 205 opponent Yoel Romero. “I want to make him pay” for failing a drug test earlier this year, he said.

-Miesha Tate told MMAJunkie she plans to take some time off after UFC 205.
