Tony Ferguson will be fighting former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos this fall, and it’s expected that Khabib Nurmagomedov will be getting the first shot at new champ Eddie Alvarez.

Ferguson had some choice comments for Nurmagomedov in a recent interview with FloCombat.com, questioning the undefeated Dagestani competitor’s current absence from competition.

“Khabib is a little bitch, too,” Ferguson said. “I honestly only use that term for a couple of people that just lay and pray and just sit there not waiting to fight and just want to take a break.  I don’t know what is going on there with Russian doping or how many times he actually gets tested, but if this dude has to fight and then go and take time off before he comes back to fight, then I don’t know, man it sounds to me like he’s on a cycle or something. But, if he’s getting tested and that’s cool, then good for him.”

Nurmagomedov took exception to that comment, responding on Instagram with the following:

This moron Ferguson has concerns about my doping tests. Hey idiot, I was tested 11 times, and 11 times antidoping agency found too much courage in my samples, unlike your cowardly eyes, that you was hiding when we met in person.

Penick’s Analysis: This is a fight we may very well see happen with a title on the line, and it could come as soon as this winter. If Nurmagomedov takes the title from Alvarez (should he indeed get that fight) and Ferguson beats dos Anjos it’s the fight that makes the most sense from there. All the bad blood boiling between the two should lead them into the cage eventually regardless of whether or not it happens in that timeline, so expect both to have long memories when it comes to one another.
