An action-packed UFC Fight Night 91 event in South Dakota on Wednesday night brought bonuses to four very deserving fighters, as John Lineker, Louis Smolka, Tony Ferguson, and Lando Vannata each took home an extra $50,000.
Lineker’s bonus win came in the night’s main event, where he earned a “Performance of the Night” award for his first round knockout of Michael McDonald. The massively impressive performance likely brings Lineker into a No. 1 contender fight in his next outing.
Smolka picked up the other “Performance of the Night” award for his second round stoppage of Ben Nguyen to open the main card. Another highly entertaining outing on the night, the back and forth grappling affair – ended when Smolka started opening up with his ground and pound attack – may have been the best fight of the night were it not for what came in the co-main event.
Ferguson and Vannata rightfully won the “Fight of the Night” award for a crazy fight that ended with Ferguson sneaking out with a submission win. Vannata, a featherweight stepping up for a short notice UFC debut, had perhaps the best debut you could have in a loss, hurting Ferguson badly throughout the bout and showing off a ridiculous chin before finally getting submitted at the end of the second round. It was a great fight, and helped the event be one of the more entertaining main cards of the year.
