“They’re gonna see a one-of-a-kind knockout. Something they’ve never seen before. I’m gonna put on a clinic… People do not like confidence. People hate people that tell them what they’re gonna do. People hate that. It comes off as arrogance, whatever you want to call it. For me, it’s the truth. The truth hurts sometimes and I tell the truth. I don’t talk s***. Bisping, other people, they might talk shit. I talk the truth. Just because I know what I’m gonna do. A lot of these guys think they know what they’re gonna do. Few people really do know. And that’s what separates us. I’m gonna go do exactly what I said.”
-UFC Middleweight Champ Luke Rockhold talks to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour about what’s going to happen at UFC 199 on Saturday night.
Penick’s Analysis: It’s easy to believe statements like this from certain fighters when they have a history of following through. With the exception of his loss to Vitor Belfort, Rockhold has done just about everything he’s claimed he would do in his UFC bouts to date, and has proven to now be the man to beat at 185 lbs. Bisping taking this fight with month’s of preparation would have still been a long shot, and that he’s got just a couple of weeks to be ready for it makes it an even more difficult fight for him. Will we actually see a “one-of-a-kind” finish? Unlikely, but if Rockhold pulls something off we haven’t seen before it will mean one hell of an end to Saturday’s event.
