Tarec Saffiedine has been cleared to fight on Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 88 event, keeping his bout with Rick Story on the card.
Saffiedine suffered an injury in training last week, putting his status on the card in jeopardy, but he revealed to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour Monday that the injury wasn’t as severe as feared, and so he’s been cleared to fight on.
The former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion will fight for just the fourth time since his January 2014 UFC debut. He’s won two of three fights to date, most recently defeating Jake Ellenberger in his return at UFC on Fox 18 in January.
Story himself is returning from a lengthy layoff, having last competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night 53 in October of 2014. He defeated Gunnar Nelson by split decision in that five round bout, his second straight win and third in his last four fights.
Sunday’s event airs live on Fox Sports 1, headlined by the bantamweight matchup between Cody Garbrandt and Thomas Almeida.
