Though they haven’t landed on the opponent yet, Conor McGregor is indeed planning to compete at UFC 200, with UFC President Dana White discussing the plans this week in an interview with ESPN Radio’s Rusillo and Kanell.
“He wants to fight again as soon as possible,” White said (transcribed by FanSided.com). “He wants to jump back in there, and he wants to fight again. We’re working on who the next opponent will be.
“In this business, it has to burn. It has to be a desire inside you to fight. Conor McGregor is a perfect example. This guy’s going to turn around and fight on [UFC ] 200 again.”
Penick’s Analysis: This was to be expected. Regardless of what happened at UFC 196, barring injury, McGregor at 200 was pretty much a must. Whether it’s a rematch with Jose Aldo, or a fight with Frankie Edgar, he’s putting that Featherweight Title on the line, and will be one of several likely significant fights booked on that July 9 card.
