UFC 197 continues to fill up, with the UFC announcing this week that Kevin Lee vs. Efrain Escudero and Danny Roberts vs. Dominique Steele have both been added to the card in Las Vegas.
Lee needs to bounce back after a disappointing loss in his last outing, a TKO at the hands of Leonardo Santos. The outspoken 23-year-old had been on a steady rise in the UFC’s lightweight ranks, railing of four straight wins before the surprising first round defeat at UFC 194 in December.
He’ll attempt to put that behind him against Escudero, the 30-year-old Ultimate Fighter winner on his third stint in the UFC. In his current run he’s gone 2-2, losing in his return to the aforementioned Santos, winning two straight over Rodrigo de Lima and Drew Dober, and then dropping a decision to Leandro Silva in his most recent fight last November.
England’s Roberts made a successful UFC debut in December, choking out Nathan Coy with a slick triangle choke at UFC Fight Night 80. The win was his 12th in 13 career fights, and was the sixth win in a row overall for the Cage Warriors FC veteran. He now meets Steele, who got a highlight-reel rebound win from his UFC debut loss when he slammed the other Dong Hyun Kim in South Korea in November, scoring a knockout in the process.
UFC 197 hits pay-per-view on April 23, headlined by the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
