“I’m very interested in that fight [with Anderson Silva]. That’s a fight I’ve wanted for a very long time. We were both reigning champions in the top two organizations. I had my sights set on it, they didn’t give it to me, they didn’t think I had earned or was worthy of it. I’ve proven myself now. Now we’ve got Anderson Silva asking for that fight. That’s what I’m all about… These guys think they have a chance and I’m going to go out there a better fighter every time and make them not want that opportunity. That’s what I want every time I go out there, I want guys to not even think about getting in there with me. I didn’t have my best performance last time so next time out, I’m going to make people fear me.”
-UFC Middleweight Champ Luke Rockhold talks to FoxSports.com about wanting a fight with Anderson Silva, and why he wants to put on more dominant showings as champion than he did to get the title in the first place.
Penick’s Analysis: If Silva beats Michael Bisping, it’s entirely possible one or two more wins puts him in line for that fight. It’s a new matchup, which plays in Silva’s favor, though he may need to pick up a win over Chris Weidman after two losses to the now former Champion in order to move himself back there. It’s not a far-fetched idea at the least, and with both wanting the matchup the UFC could decide it’s worth putting together eventually.
