Khabib Nurmagomedov says UFC on Fox 19 bout with Tony Ferguson the five round main event

By Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

The UFC hasn’t made any official announcements regarding a reported UFC on Fox 19 event on April 16, but after his fight with Tony Ferguson was first reported, Khabib Nurmagomedov took to Instagram to say their fight was the night’s main event.

The lightweight contender posted a picture to Instagram about the fight, and said that it’s going to be the five round main event on the card.

Penick’s Analysis: It’s the most deserving of having the five round designation of the bouts reported thus far. Rashad Evans vs. Shogun Rua is a sensible fight right now, but it’s not a main event for 2016. Nurmagomedov-Ferguson is a great lightweight fight, and as a five round fight it’s even better. Given the winner could be the next UFC Lightweight Title challenger, that would be excellent.

  1. I was thinking something like that as well. As much as I’d love to see these two in five rounds, it’s not a huge headliner for a Fox card. DJ at least has a title.
