UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos absolutely starched Donald Cerrone on Saturday night to retain his UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC on Fox 17.

Dos Anjos hurt Cerrone almost immediately with a straight left hand in their opening exchange, and it would only go downhill for the challenger from there. A big knee to the body did significant damage, and dos Anjos continued to pressure “Cowboy” towards the cage. He landed a liver kick that further exacerbated issues for Cerrone, then unleashed hell with a torrent of strikes on the cage.

Cerrone somehow survived that onslaught, but as he tried to reset he got tagged again and shot in for a takedown. Dos Anjos stuffed it easily, Cerrone turtled up, and the Champ finished things off with a few more strikes. The whole thing was over in just 66 seconds, the fastest finish for in UFC Lightweight Title fight history.

The loss snaps an eight-fight winning streak for Cerrone, dating back to his first one-sided – but not nearly as destructive – loss to dos Anjos, while dos Anjos secures his first official title defense after capturing the title in March.

After the win, dos Anjos joined Nate Diaz in calling out UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor, who last week expressed a desire to move up to lightweight to take that title as well after beating Jose Aldo at UFC 194.

“Mr McGregor: If you want to come to the lightweight division, this is my division, man,” dos Anjos warned. “It’s better to stay in the featherweight division. I will fight you in Brazil, I’ll go to Ireland to face you, whatever one, man. I’m here to stay.”
