A fantastic bantamweight matchup has been added to the UFC Fight Night 82 in Pittsburgh this February, with the UFC announcing on Monday that John Lineker will take on undefeated Cody Garbrandt.
Lineker had come close to title contention as a flyweight, but was forced to move up when he failed to make weight on numerous occasions. He made a thrilling debut in the division in September at UFC 191, taking out Francisco Rivera with a slick submission after a wild firefight. He hurt Rivera badly as they traded strikes back and forth, then locked on a guillotine choke to finish it off. The whole affair took just two minutes.
As for Garbrandt, the Team Alpha Male product made his debut in the organization in January as a 5-0 prospect, and made good on his hype with a stoppage win over Marcus Brimage. A follow up decision over Henry Briones was slightly underwhelming, but at 24-years-old and 7-0 on his career, he hopes to make a quick mark at 135 lbs.
UFC Fight Night 82 brings the UFC back to Pittsburgh for the first time in years, and will air live on Fox Sports 1 on Feb. 21.
