Saturday’s UFC 193 prelims on Fox Sports 1 drew the second-highest prelim audience of 2015, as Jason Floyd of TheMMAReport.com reported on Tuesday that the two-hour broadcast drew 1.394 million viewers to FS1.
That places it only behind the prelims for UFC 183 this year, which drew 1,546,000 viewers to the network in January.
The two-hour Fox Sports 1 broadcast on Saturday led into the pay-per-view main card from Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, and was capped off by Jake Matthews’ doctor’s stoppage win over Akbarh Arreola. Though the prelim broadcasts don’t always indicate correlation to how well the pay-per-view performs, it’s indicative of increased interest in the night overall.
Here’s how the preliminary card broadcasts have done so far in 2015:
UFC 182: 1,030,000
UFC 183: 1,546,000
UFC 184: 1,205,000
UFC 185: 1,003,000
UFC 186: 710,000
UFC 187: 780,000
UFC 188: 727,000
UFC 189: 847,000
UFC 190: 1,322,000
UFC 191: 663,000
UFC 192: 749,000
UFC 193: 1,394,000
Penick’s Analysis: That’s a real good number. Though again it doesn’t necessarily correlate to pay-per-view buys, that broadcast is likely to have done quite well, and could very well be the best performing pay-per-view of the year. We’ll get a better sense in the coming weeks as estimates start to come in.
