In highly unfortunate news for Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 83 event, John Lineker has been forced to withdraw from his co-main event bout against Cody Garbrandt after contracting Dengue fever in Brazil.

News of his removal was first reported by Portal do Vale Tudo in Brazil, with Lineker himself confirming the news in a post on Instagram.

“We apologize to Cody,” Lineker wrote (translated by Guilherme Cruz at MMAFighting.com). “I know how bad it is to do all the preparation and not be able to fight. It affects all of us, but there are things we can’t avoid. Now we have to wait for the fight to be rescheduled.”

Penick’s Analysis: With the loss of Brandon Thatch vs. Siyar Bahadurzada last week, and Sarah Moras pulling out a fight with Lauren Murphy as well, this card in Pittsburgh continues to take hits. This is a massively disappointing loss, as the fight was easily the most anticipated matchup on the card. That it will be rescheduled is great to hear, and hopefully it won’t be too far down the line, but it really hurts Sunday’s event.
