“I think Ronda is somewhat emotionally unstable and I think that’s been a characteristic for a long time. Doesn’t mean she fights any worse for it. I’m not knocking her as an athlete but emotionally she’s just got some things that are a little bit strange and I think that that was one of them. I feel like you can tell a lot about a person who, if they’re nice to people that they don’t have to be nice to or if they’re not nice to people that they don’t have to be nice to, and I feel like things that sometimes people don’t see on the massive media outlets is the way Ronda is behind scenes.”
-Miesha Tate talks Ronda Rousey in an interview this week with the SiriusXM Rush Fight Club (transcribed by MMAFighting.com).
Penick’s Analysis: Rousey’s certainly got a history of overreacting at times, and she’s been driven in the past by feelings of anger and disrespect. I don’t know if it’s fair to describe her as unstable, but Tate also doesn’t care about being fair to Rousey. Now, what Tate’s addressing here is a recent interaction between Rousey and Paige VanZant where Rousey went off on the strawweight simply for congratulating Holly Holm for beating her. Rousey also didn’t take the loss to Holm particularly well at any point, but regardless of her reactions she can still perform well if and when she returns.
