UFC announces cancellation of April 25 open casting call for The Ultimate Fighter’s 24th season

The UFC’s open casting call for The Ultimate Fighter’s 24th season will no longer be taking place on April 25 in Las Vegas.

The organization announced on Tuesday that they were canceling the event, though they provided no further information on reasons for the cancellation or when it will be rescheduled.

It has been announced recently that the season would crown a new title challenger in the UFC’s flyweight division, to face off against the UFC Champion at the finale event in December after the season aired in the fall. What this cancellation means for those plans is unknown, though current champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson has made it clear he wasn’t interested in waiting until December after defending his title against Henry Cejudo next week.

Penick’s Analysis: We can only speculate at this point until more information is provided, but it’s certainly odd for them to call off the casting call just weeks after announcing it. Still, whether it remains a flyweight season with the title shot on the line, whether they’re needing to adjust their plans due to not consulting with their champion ahead of time, or whether there’s an entirely innocuous reason for the cancellation, they’ll have to announce something soon with filming expected to start in the summer.
