UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington aren’t officially scheduled to fight each other right now, but that hasn’t stopped them from trash talking and putting something more on the line than Woodley’s championship. During an appearance on TMZ’s “Hollywood Beatdown” recently, Woodley presented a wager for a potential fight with Covington.
“Every single time you touch my leg for a (takedown) shot, you’ve got to pay me 10 grand,” Woodley said (transcribed by MMAJunkie). I want people to see it for what it is. You don’t want to see these hands. You don’t want to do nothing but try to out-wrestle me. And at the end of the day, he can’t even do that. So I’m challenging you: No wrestling. You touch my leg, it’s 10 bands. If I touch your leg I’ll give you 20 grand.”
The bet is basically asking Covington to avoid using his strongest asset in a championship fight. Covington soon turned this around on Woodley and made a counter offer of his own.
“What I make of it is, I’m going to counter him and I’m going to bet him on MMAjunkie Radio that I’m going to give him $10,000 for every punch he throws – all five of them,” Covington said on MMA Junkie Radio.
Covington is likely referring to the lackluster title fights Woodley had with Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia where there was little in the way of action over five-rounds. The Maia fight specifically saw Woodley avoid takedowns but throw very few strikes.

A Woodley-Covington fight has been presumed to be next for both men after Covington won an interim title fight with Rafael dos Anjos earlier this year. Covington was then stripped of that title and Woodley booked against Darren Till. Covington claims he was ready to fight Woodley last month at UFC 230 but is accusing Woodley of faking an injury.
“He was out and said his thumb was hurting – that’s fake news, as well, and he’s faking injuries again.”
