By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch Senior Columnist

UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev was last night. Let’s get to the rundown.

UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev
GOOD- Michael Johnson vs. Jamie Mullarky
Mullarky starts with some kicks while Johnson’s throwing punches.
Johnson starts working the body while Mullarky continues with the
kicks before getting knocked down. The first round ends with both men
throwing bombs at each other. The second round opens with them trading
some big strikes. Mullarky continues to throw those kicks. He lands
some big strikes and the round ends. The third round sees Johnson
working his jab and attacking the body. Johnson denies a few takedowns
and the round ends as they trade more strikes. Mullarky wins the Split
Decision and improves to 15-5 while Johnson falls to 20-18 and has
lost 5 of his last 6 fights. Good win for Mullarky.

UGLY- Ricky Turcios vs. Aiemann Zahabi
This fight was terrible. Basically, Turcios threw out 9,000 feints and
strikes from halfway across the cage with no chance of them landing.
Zahabi is just landing some kicks and counters. There were no
knockdowns, no submission attempts, just a guy who looked like he was
playing with 650+ Ping. He looked like he was going into the animation
of striking but stopped a third of the way through over and over.
Zahabi wins the decision by default and improves to 9-2 while Turcios
drops to 11-3. It’s a win for Zahabi.

GOOD- Chase Sherman stops Jared Vanderaa
They start off trading jabs before Sherman starts working kicks and
going to the body. Vanderaa starts attacking the body as well but
Sherman tags him with a hard right hand and the round ends. The second
round sees them again trade jabs while working in some kicks for the
rest of the round. The third round starts with them exchanging
strikes. Sherman lets loose and hurts Vanderaa. Big elbows and punches
from Sherman ended the fight a little over three minutes into the
third round as the referee was forced to jump in to stop the fight.
Sherman improves to 16-10 and snaps a 4 fight losing streak while
Vanderaa falls to 12-9 and has lost 4 fights in a row. Good win for
Sherman.

GOOD- Said Nurmagomedov vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade
They traded strikes throughout the first round, with Silva de Andrade
staggering Nurmagomedov at one point. He shrugged it off quickly,
though, and they continued exchanging strikes. The second round saw
them start to throw more kicks. They were both throwing jumping and
spinning attacks. It was kind of wild to see. The third round was more
of the same. Both men kept spamming their spin attacks and we go to
the judges. Nurmagomedov won the decision and improves to 16-2 and has
won 3 fights in a row while Silva de Andrade falls to 28-5 with 1 No
Contest. Good win for Nurmagomedov.

GOOD- Caio Borralho vs. Armen Petrosyan
Borralho got a quick takedown and began working towards a submission.
He couldn’t get it going, though, and the round ended. The second
round starts with a few kicks before Borralho gets another double-leg
takedown. Petrosyan sweeps out of mount and they stand but Borralho
gets another takedown. He hunts for the submission but comes up empty.
The third round starts with a prolonged takedown attempt by Borralho.
Petrosyan is fighting well and stays on his feet for a while before
getting taken down again. Borralho again hunts for the submission but
Petrosyan defends well and the fight ends. Borralho gets the decision
victory and improves to 12-1 and has won 4 straight fights while
Petrosyan falls to 7-2. Both guys were working hard, Borralho had the
advantage with his takedowns but they were too evenly matched on the
mat to get to a finish. Good win for Borralho.

GOOD- Rafael Fiziev stops Rafael dos Anjos
They trade kicks before mixing in some punches with more kicks. The
second round starts with more kicks and some punches. Fiziev is
defending most of the takedown attempts from dos Anjos well. They’re
both landing well but Fiziev seems to be getting the better of it so
far. The third round starts with dos Anjos getting a takedown but
Fiziev gets right back up. Dos Anjos tries again but can’t get the
takedown. He is heating up, though, as he’s hitting first but he’s
also getting tagged in return. The fourth round opens with dos Anjos
trying for another takedown. They battle against the cage for a while
before dos Anjos gets another takedown shortly before the round ends.
The fifth round opens with dos Anjos landing some nice punches before
Fiziev crushes him with an overhand left that essentially ends the
fight. The referee jumps in and stops things just eighteen seconds
into the fifth round. Fiziev improves to 12-1 and has won 6 fights in
a row while dos Anjos falls to 31-14. Good win for Fiziev.

My fantasy book is now out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: Undeath and
the Dewester Set
. It’s a fantasy epic that begins with the Summers
siblings but spreads out to encompass a large number of characters
across multiple stories as the world faces a threat from a vile
necromancer. There’s lots of action, magic, and monsters in the
Kingdom of Zarias. It’s like a tabletop game in novel form. It’s on
Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and many other places. If you’re interested, I
would greatly appreciate it if you would check it out and support me.
