Bellator 230 and UFC Tampa were this past weekend. Let’s get right to the rundown.

HYDEN BLOG: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly from Bellator 230 and UFC Tampa

Bellator 230

GOOD- Andrea Fusi vs. Walter Pugliesi

Pugliesi outworked Fusi here, hitting him with strikes, taking him down, and doing everything possible to wear Fusi down en route to the decision win. Good win for Pugliesi.

BAD- Hesdy Gerges vs. Dragos Zubco

This was a horribly boring fight most of the time. There were a few decent moments but most of it was dull and tedious. Zubco won the decision. Moving on…

GOOD/BAD- Domingo Barros vs. Kirill Sidelnikov

This fight was a mixed bag, there was some good moments but just about as many bad ones. At least that’s how it felt to me. I just wasn’t feeling it. Sidelnikov was getting the clear advantage during the exchanges and he got the decision as a result. Good win for Sidelnikov.

GOOD- Vadim Nemkov submits Rafael Carvalho

Nemkov did anything he wanted during this fight. He hurt Carvalho with powerful strikes, took him down whenever he wanted, and locked in a submission to get the victory about four minutes into the second round. A dominant win that spoils Carvalho light heavyweight debut. Nemkov looked great in this fight, good win for him.

UFC Tampa

GOOD- Eryk Anders vs. Gerald Meerschaert

Both men were having success with their striking so this was a really entertaining fight to watch. I felt that Meerschaert should have gotten the decision but it was certainly close enough that when Anders won by split decision that it didn’t feel too bad of a decision. Good win for Anders.

GOOD- Matt Frevola vs. Luis Pena

This was another back and forth fight that was extremely close. They hit each other with good strikes and grappling. Frevola got the split decision. Good win for Frevola.

GOOD- Mackenzie Dern vs. Amanda Ribas

Dern got outstruck in this fight, though she was able to get a couple takedowns. She wasn’t able to do much with them, though, as Ribas quickly got back up. And the times they stayed on the mat, it was largely a stalemate. Ribas won the decision. Good win for Ribas.

GOOD- Niko Price stops James Vick

Price dropped Vick early in the first round. Vick recovered and took Price down but then got nailed with a huge upkick and was out. Good win for Price.

GOOD/BAD- Cub Swanson vs. Kron Gracie

Swanson was able to avoid going to the mat with Gracie. He outstruck him and kept the fight standing except for right at the end of the third round. By then, though, it was too late. Swanson won the decision. It wasn’t the most exciting fight but it was smartly fought by Swanson.

GOOD- Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Michelle Waterson

Jedrzejczyk was just too good with her striking and she avoided almost all the takedown attempts from Waterson, who did land a few. Jedrzejczyk was able to escape from the submission attempts and kept peppering Waterson with strikes. Waterson showed good toughness but Jedrzejczyk was just too aggressive and landed a large amount of strikes and that got her the decision victory. Good win for Jedrzejczyk.
