ROUNDTABLE: Staff predictions for Jacare Souza vs. Jack Hermansson

This is a very good fight, it’s not getting a lot of hype because people love Yoel Romero and Jack Hermanson doesn’t have that fan base. I think Jacare Souza is better where Hermanson is his best. Should be some excellent, world-class grappling in this fight and I see Jacare submitting Jack the Joker.

I’m going with Souza by 3rd round submission. I think Souza will start a little slowly because he won’t want to get caught but then he starts turning in on in the middle of the fight and shuts the door on Hermansson, probably catching him with a rear-naked choke or something like that.

Man, I don’t know. The safe pick is obvious, that being Jacare, so that’s who I’m betting on. I’m rooting for Hermansson because he is pretty exciting, but he won’t be able to grapple around with Jacare the way he did with Branch. Sure he may grapple well, but I think Jacare is too good to lose this, but I could see it going the other way as well.

A three-fight win streak may just be enough for Jack Hermansson to beat Jacare Souza by decision but the more important issue is that this fight may go to decision. I hope it’s a war if it goes the distance but it could end up being two guys just wanting to survive instead of two guys wanting to win.

Jacare has to win this fight. He has the most to gain, that being a promised middleweight title shot. Yes, I know UFC breaks promises all the time, but let’s just assume a potentially empty promise is still enough to motivate Jacare. Hermansson is making a pretty quick turnaround and is facing a world-class fighter in Jacare. Hermansson made quick work of David Branch in his last fight on the ground, but that’s not going to happen here. Jacare was originally training for Yoel Romero, so he’s going to be sharp and ready to grapple. I’m picking Jacare by fifth-round submission.
