So much for nonsensical speculation. Dana White confirmed to ESPN this morning that negotiations are taking place to bring Floyd Mayweather into the UFC.

To ESPN, White said, “We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal.” “It’s real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media, and then that s— ends up happening. “We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f—ing happened. Anything is possible.”

Earlier this month, Mayweather himself alluded to a potential UFC deal that would make him billions of dollars. Via Fight Hype Mayweather said,”I can come right back. If I wanted to, I can come right back to the UFC. I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three- or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars. Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.”

Heydorn’s Analysis: So its not all B.S apparently? Regardless of what Mayweather and White say today, I won’t believe a word of it until a contract is signed, sealed, and delivered. McGregor in the boxing world is one thing, but Mayweather crossing over and fighting in the octagon is something entirely different. I think people genuinely wanted to see how Conor McGregor would fair against Mayweather in a boxing ring. I’m not sure the interest is reciprocated in seeing Mayweather in an MMA fight. Mayweather in the UFC will do big business for them, but it will come at the price of them being legitimate. It’s a fine line and Dana White needs to walk it well with this move.
