ROUNDTABLE: Who wins between Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos?

MMATorch Staff

At UFC on Fox 26, on Dec. 16, Robbie Lawler takes on Rafael dos Anjos. Who will win?

I think we see a war here and Lawler comes out on top by way of knockout in the 3rd round. Both guys are tough and have a lot of heart, but I think Lawler will be looking to put himself in title position in a wide-open division. I think this will be the best fight of the night and we see a real war of attrition here.

My objective opinion is:  Robbie!  Robbie!  Robbie!

I will give the edge in this fight to Robbie Lawler for his power and toughness.  I think he should be able to out strike RDA and maybe get an early KO.  This will be a good fight, but I feel that Lawler is just a bit much for RDA to handle.

I am so excited for this fight, and extremely grateful I’ll be there live to witness it.  Dos Anjos is a fantastic fighter all around, and even though he had a cup of coffee as the champion, I think his whole career he’s been underrated so it’s nice to see him being recognized as a clear contender at Welterweight. Robbie however, is the most criminally underappreciated fighter on the planet. He’s been at this game since the dawn of time and has become a savvy veteran that mixes in that brawling maniac style beautifully. The second he lost the title to Tyron Woodley; everyone seemed to forget this is the man that returned from a very respectable stint at middleweight in Strikeforce to the winning 8 out of 9 UFC fights with the only loss being to a prime Johnny Hendricks. He later avenged the loss to Hendricks. The odds have this dead even but I think Robbie should be a massive favorite.  Robbie by TKO 3rd round.

It is always hard to pick against Robbie Lawler, but I see this as a spot where Rafael dos Anjos makes a solid claim to challenge for the welterweight title. This feels like a fight where Lawler is on his way down, where dos Anjos has found his footing as a welterweight.

I got Lawler all the way. Lawler is still hungry but still fresh from losing the title so it will be tough for him.  Rafael dos Anjos hasn’t looked impressive to me since he gained his title I don’t have much faith in him.
