Jon Jones’ manager releases statement

Jon Jones’ manager Malki Kawa claims that Jon Jones is the victim of another tainted supplement. Kawa released a statement to MMA Figthing about the failed drug test.

“We are all at a complete loss for words right now. Jon, his trainers, his nutritionists and his entire camp have worked tirelessly and meticulously the past 12 months to avoid this exact situation. We are having the samples tested again to determine the validity or source of contamination. Jon is crushed by this news and we are doing whatever we can as a team to support him.”

It is being reported that Jones tested positive for the steroid Turinabol. The failed test in question happened in-competition on July 28th after the fighters weighed in for UFC 214. It’s the second time in 13 months that Jones has failed a USADA drug test. Due to the fact Jones is a multiple time offender, he faces the possibility of being banned for up to 4 years.

What is Turinabol?

Turinabol was developed in former East Germany to improve the performance of their athletes, particularly during the Olympic Games. The drug was designed to produce more powerful and long-lasting muscles without the typical side-effects (water retention and increased estrogen levels) of other steroids. Turinabol does not result in quick gains in muscle growth and strength. The drug is desired for its longer lasting effects. That is why it is considered a “long term” anabolic steroid.

Turinabol is a very effective drug when it comes to sports competitions. All the chemical elements of the drug are flushed out through your urine after a break of only one or two weeks. Even though there are no traces of the drug in the athlete’s system, all of the strength and power it generates are still present.

John’s Analysis: I hate to judge someone guilty before all the facts are available, but this isn’t the first time Jones tested positive for an illegal substance. I will still wait to see what the appeal process uncovers before I call Jon a PED user, but at the very least, I can call him reckless and disappointing.  Jones is one of the greatest fighters to step in the octagon. He has so much talent. It’s a shame that he is throwing it all away. I was looking forward to his move to Heavyweight. I wanted to see Jones vs Gustafsson II. But now it looks like it will be a long time before we see Jon Jones fight again. It’s just sad.
