Dana White, a sharp turnaround from recent comments, says his relationship with George St. Pierre has never been better. “My relationship has never been better with GSP,” White said in a text message to the Saskatoon StarPhoenix. “I’m glad we got together.”

White added that if GSP fights again, it will be for UFC. “He’s under contract with the UFC, so yes if he returns to fighting it would be with us.”

GSP had recently declared he was a free agent and White had recently said GSP didn’t have the heart or desire needed to fight MMA anymore. A comment like that above from White turns the odds of a GSP return to UFC back to the “likely” category, although probably not in time for UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto, Ont., in his home country.

GSP and White met a few days ago in Las Vegas, and it seems progress was made.

Keller’s Analysis: While not definitive, this is yet another strong signal that GSP will fight again in UFC. If GSP were content to stay retired, this drama of the last few weeks wouldn’t have resulted in so many public statements via GSP, mostly via social media or podcasts, in response to rumors of his future. This could simply mean White provided evidence to GSP and his lawyers that he is not a free agent and is under obligation to fight for UFC, and once that was established, White extended an olive branch of sorts with some compelling fight options and paydays that GSP is at least warming up to. Stay tuned.
