Justin Scoggins pulls himself out of UFC 201 bout with Ian McCall due to weight-cutting issues

In yet another blow to an already lacking card, Justin Scoggins has been forced to withdraw from Saturday’s UFC 201 event due to issues with his weight cut this week.

The news comes via MMAJunkie.com, citing confirmation from Scoggins himself.

The 24-year-old Scoggins is on a two-fight winning streak, and has won four of six fights inside the Octagon, but he now leaves opponent Ian McCall with no one to fight. That’s especially disappointing for the veteran McCall, who would have been getting in the cage for the first time in 18 months.

Saturday’s UFC 201 event from Atlanta will be headlined by the Welterweight Championship bout between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley. No official announcement has yet been made regarding Scoggins’ removal, nor on how the bout order will be reshuffled.

Penick’s Analysis: Well, it’s better that he drop out now than keep trying to cut down risking worse injury to himself. It sucks for McCall to have the fight fall out from under him after how long he’s been out, and hopefully the UFC can take care of him this week. Still, Scoggins shouldn’t risk further unnecessary damage by continuing a cut that’s not going well.
