“I would never shy away from that. I’ve let people know plenty of times and I’ll continue to say that. I believe that I can go out there and beat anybody in the lightweight division of the UFC and seize that title and be the man on top. I just have that belief in my body and I have that in my bones and I can feel it. I know I can do it. If that opportunity presents itself, I will definitely seize that moment. I will take that opportunity… All I can tell you is that I’m gonna be in shape. Whatever happens next, I’m gonna give them the best that I’ve got it. Wherever I end up, whatever organization I end up with, they’re gonna get the best Will Brooks that anybody has ever seen.”
-Exiting Bellator Lightweight Champion Will Brooks talks to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour about potentially entering the UFC after his release from Bellator.
Penick’s Analysis: Hopefully Brooks gets an offer from the UFC. He belongs in a spot where he can fight the best and prove himself among the best, because his run thus far has been impressive and absolutely suggests he can have success there. Now it’s about getting the opportunity to prove it. If he enters the UFC, he’ll be an immediate contender in a stacked field, and just about any matchup he can get will be a good opening test to judge his spot in the field on that roster. From there he’s likely to move up quickly, and would be another competitive and viable name to plug into a mix that could use some new blood.
