Both Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor this weekend continued to feed into a story that the two of them would meet in a boxing match sometime in the near future. First, McGregor tweeted out the picture below:

Then Mayweather, in an interview with FightHype.com, said that the rumors were started by him, and he believed the fight to be possible.

“It’s possible. It’s possible,” Mayweather said of a fight with an MMA fighter, without naming McGregor. “There was a name that was shot at me. But the rumors that y’all have been hearing [are] the rumors I started. It may not be a rumor. Keep your fingers crossed. It may be a boxer versus an MMA fighter. So we just don’t know.”

Penick’s Analysis: Not happening. The only way McGregor could attempt that fight would be if UFC co-promoted with Mayweather. That’s not something they do, and even if they did it would mean a lesser share in turn for McGregor because of the UFC’s involvement. They’re going to make their money on McGregor’s next several fights, and those fights will be in a UFC cage. He’s not going to be boxing Floyd Mayweather or anyone else for that matter; it’s simply not going to happen.
