UFC Fight Night 79 Bonuses: Doo Ho Choi’s impressive return to action garners extra $50K

This morning’s UFC Fight Night 79 event in Seoul, South Korea, was full of action, giving the UFC plenty of options for post-fight bonuses. They decided on Dominique Steele, Doo Ho Choi, Seo Hee Ham, and Cortney Casey for the $50,000 awards.

Steele took his in the first bout of the night, beating up late replacement “Maestro” Dong Hyun Kim (not to be confused with the night’s co-main event winner) before knocking him out in brutal fashion with a slam in the third round. He picked him up high and sent him down violently; their heads clashed, and Steele landed another few strikes to put him out cold.

The 24-year-old Choi signed with the UFC in November of 2013, but didn’t make his debut for a full year because of injury. He impressed in that debut with an 18 second finish over Juan Puig, but injury kept him out another full year before Saturday night. He impressed once more, however, taking out Sam Sicilia in a minute in a half for the other “Performance of the Night” award.

Ham and Casey put forth one of the better strawweight fights in the division’s young history in the UFC, earning each a bonus for the “Fight of the Night.” Ham wound up taking a unanimous decision in a close fight, as her relentless attack wound up doing tons of damage, while Casey continued to fire back throughout the fight. It was as good as we’ve seen from the 115 lb. women in the UFC outside of perhaps a couple of Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s performances.
