Bobby Lashley says potential Kimbo Slice bout not preferable, but wouldn’t decline it under the right terms

Bellator

Bobby Lashley returns to action this Friday at Bellator 145, taking on James Thompson in an attempt to avenge a 2012 loss. A win would make four straight in Bellator, and with the organization looking to set up Kimbo Slice with another headlining bout in February, Lashley could be an ideal opponent.

Lashley’s non-committal to that idea, but says if the money was right it’s a fight he’d entertain.

“Bellator is big on putting those big fights together, and I think if they get something like Kimbo and myself, that would be a big fight,” Lashley said in an interview with MMAJunkie.com. “If Bellator needs something or wants something, then I’ll leave it up to them.

“One, I’m good friends with Kimbo,” he continued when explaining why he’d be hesitant to take the fight. “Two, he is (American Top Team). But at the end of the day, if monetarily it makes sense, and they spoke to Kimbo and Kimbo was wanting to do it, I wouldn’t decline it.

“I let Bellator deal with that part, and if they come with something that makes sense, and if there’s something they want to do, I have to take it into consideration.”

Penick’s Analysis: Despite a prior relationship, that would be one of the more sensible, name-value fights the organization could put together for Slice, so I’d expect there will at least be conversations for it if Lashley wins on Friday night. If they’re going to promote Kimbo, they’re going to put him in against names they think can draw. Lashley could be one of them if he wins again this week, so we’ll find out from there whether or not it’ll come together.
