UFC Fight Night: Ulberg vs. Reyes was this past weekend and featured several exciting fights and finishes. Who won and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
UFC Fight Night: Ulberg vs. Reyes
GOOD- Tom Nolan submits Charlie Campbell
They start off trading kicks until Campbell drops Nolan with some good
left hands. Campbell lets him up so Nolan smacks him with a spinning
back elbow but Campbell gets a quick takedown and lets him up again.
They’re back to trading stiff strikes and both men are showing good
toughness in absorbing them. They’re slugging it out and Nolan drops
Campbell and quickly takes his back and locks in a rear-naked choke
that forces the tap a bit over four minutes into the first round.
Nolan improves to 10-1 and has won 4 straight fights while Campbell
drops to 9-3 and has his 3 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Nolan.
GOOD/UGLY?- Neil Magny submits Jake Matthews
They’re swatting at each other early with strikes, as they try to feel
each other out. Matthews starts having some success so Magny ties him
up and takes him down. Matthews grabs a guillotine and Magny appears
to go out and the referee waves the fight off right as the first round
ends. However, Magny immediately yells that he isn’t out so the L referee allows the fight to continue and this whole thing is a big cluster. On to the second round, I guess. The second round begins with
Matthews getting a takedown and working his ground-and-pound and
hunting for multiple submissions. Matthews is in full control the
entire second round. The third round starts with Magny getting a takedown but they both stand after Matthews tries for another submission but can’t lock it in. They fight in the clinch for a bit before Magny gets a takedown and locks in a brabo choke and Matthews
has to tap.
Magny improves to 31-13 while Matthews drops to 22-8 and has his 3 fight winning streak snapped. The controversy surrounding that
non-finish finish at the end of the first round could change all of this and have the fight ruled a No Contest, though. It would surprise
me if that didn’t happen but we’ll just have to wait to see. Another Magny Miracle comeback.
GOOD- Jack Jenkins vs. Ramon Taveras
Jenkins is throwing a lot of kicks early and now both men are throwing
punches also. Jenkins staggers Taveras with a head kick and a bunch of
other strikes but Taveras is tough. Jenkins continues to pummel Taveras until the end of the first round. The second round begins with
both fighters trading strikes. Taveras hits Jenkins low for the second time so he gets the dreaded hard warning. When action resumes they go
back to trading strikes and they start to go wild on each other before
Jenkins gets a takedown right before the second round ends. The third round starts with Taveras still battling hard but this fight has belonged to Jenkins. Maybe it’s the home country crowd but Jenkins
fought really well. The fight ends so we go to the judges to render their verdict.
Jenkins wins the decision to improve to 14-4 while Taveras drops to 10-4. Good win for Jenkins.
GOOD- Jimmy Crute submits Ivan Erslan
They trade some strikes early until Crute gets a takedown. They’re up
and down a few times until Erslan powers back to his feet, but Crute remains on his back. They go back down and Crute locks in what’s basically a Camel Clutch like he’s the Iron Sheik or something. Or Rusev for a more modern reference. Anyway, Erslan has to tap and this
fight is over three and a half minutes into the first round. And I guess the submission goes down as a reverse can opener.
Crute improves to 14-4-2 while Erslan drops to 14-6 with 1 No Contest and has lost 3 straight fights. A cool win for Crute.
GOOD- Carlos Ulberg stops Dominick Reyes
Not much is happening early in this fight. This continues as neither fighter wants to make a big mistake. The end comes when Ulberg lands a
1-2 that crushes Reyes and knocks him out. For some reason the referee
Marc Goddard doesn’t jump in to stop the fight so Ulberg smashes Reyes with a completely unnecessary right hand on the mat.
Ulberg improves to 13-1 and has won 9 straight fights while Reyes drops to 15-5 and has his 3 fight winning streak snapped. Strong win for
Ulberg, who calls for a title shot next. That seems pretty likely but we’ll have to wait to see. Stranger things have happened.
My new epic fantasy book is out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: The End’s
Beginning. The exciting epic fantasy series Kingdom of Zarias returns with the 4th book in the series. After the harrowing events of
Book 3 the residents of the Kingdom of Zarias continue on their paths.
Serena Summers continues to learn and grow as a fighter, desperately
seeking to become stronger before she loses anyone else in her life.
Daniel Summers discovers new parts of the world that open his eyes to
just how little he truly knows. A new hero, Lamar Abeers, arrives to join the fight against evil. Plus, Zach Summers, Tiana Highsmith, and
Xavien Ekens continue their journeys with their friends, and a new ruler of Vhaharen is crowned. The world has found a little peace.
However, that peace is only temporary. In a shocking act of violence,
the monstrous villain Galren strikes from the shadows and changes the world forever. This is Book 4 in the series. There’s lots of action, magic, and monsters in the Kingdom of Zarias. It’s like a tabletop game in novel form. It’s on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and many other
places. If you’re interested, I would greatly appreciate it if you would check it out and support me.Thank you very much, have a good day.
