Do you agree with Dana White that Anderson Silva should get a title shot if he beats Israel Adesanya at UFC 234?

Israel Adesanya talks the talk, saying he is a better Anderson Silva, now he’s going to have to walk the walk against the man himself. If Anderson Silva does in fact beat the newer version of himself I believe a title shot should be his swan song. So yes, he should get a title shot after beating a young up and comer. If Silva gets smashed he should maybe have one more fight against a not so dangerous opponent and call it a career on a high note. I would like to see what Yoel Romero would do against Anderson Silva but I feel like Silva may be instantly retired.

I suppose. This would be Silva’s second straight win but it would feel a little weird, him getting a title shot at this point. Maybe that’s because I don’t think Silva has a great chance at beating Adesanya, but if he does, why not give him a shot? You might as well. It’d be a nice little story for them to build around and everyone loves a comeback story.

No, not at all, but I get it. I think everyone knows Israel Adesanya picks Anderson Silva apart, even Dana. Many consider Adesanya to be the next Silva, and by beating Silva, he “becomes” Silva and is a mega star that is given a title fight. However, if Anderson has a miracle, and wins, it’s a terrible decision, but it isn’t as bad as it could be in another, more competitive weight class. There really isn’t much competition. Excluding Whittaker and a few others like Adesanya, nobody, even the #1 contender in Gastelum has won all of their last three fights.

Worse fighters than Anderson Silva have been given title shots for doing much less impressive things than defeating Israel Adesanya. Case in point, Dan Henderson got a shot at Michael Bisping after beating Hector Lombard. The prospect of Anderson Silva against either Robert Whittaker or Kelvin Gastelum is an appealing idea. Put it in a stadium in Brazil and maybe add a retirement stipulation for Silva, and that’s a very sell-able fight. All Silva needs to do is beat is beat a younger, faster, undefeated, motivated for destruction version of himself. No problem, right?
