Brock Lesnar wins WWE Universal Championship in Saudi Arabia, more WWE appearances scheduled

If Brock Lesnar plans to show up to confront Daniel Cormier (or Derrick Lewis) at UFC 230 on Saturday, he’ll have some gold around his waist when he does.

Lesnar defeated Braun Strowman to win WWE’s Universal Championship in a match at the controversial Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. Lesnar won a short match in which he took almost no offense from Strowman. Short of a boot to the face, Lesnar was on offense the entire match.

The brevity of the match coupled with the lack of bumps Lesnar took suggests that a UFC return is imminent. Lesnar’s physical appearance has changed in recent months as well. Lesnar re-entered the USADA testing pool after making an appearance at UFC 226 in July.

A match-up with Cormier was presumed to take place early next year once Lesnar’s suspension was served for a PED failure following his UFC 200 fight with Mark Hunt. Lesnar won the fight that was overturned to a no contest after testing positive for clomiphene. Cormier then took a short notice fight with Derrick Lewis set to take place Saturday from Madison Square Garden. A loss for Cormier would put the Lesnar fight in jeopardy. A Lesnar fight with Lewis could be possible should Lewis win on Saturday. A fight between Lesnar and Jon Jones has been rumored as well. Jones is currently scheduled for a Dec. 29 fight with Alexander Gustafsson.
