When asked if she thought she’d be offered a fight with the winner of the bout, Cyborg wasn’t confident. “I have no idea, there are no [standards for title shots] in MMA,” Cyborg said. “The last fight in the men’s 145-pound division, a 10-0 fighter fought a guy who was 1-5 in his last fights. Other fighters like me have to wait for a title fight. I’m fighting for my division for 10 years, and until yesterday Dana said there were no women. This is our reality.”
Still, she is happy that the UFC has finally decided to create a Bantamweight division for women. “I’m happy the UFC created my division,” Cyborg said. “It’s been 11 years. I’m fighting for women to have the same rights as men with several divisions.”
Cyborg is widely considered one of the best Women Featherweight fighters of all time and has not lost since 2005.
Cervantes Analysis: Cyborg has no one to blame but herself for this situation. She was offered this fight and refused it because she said she needed more time to recover from her most recent weight cut. She said she would need until at least March to fight again and the UFC decided that it didn’t want to wait for her. I’m sure she’ll get her shot eventually but she needs to own the fact that the reason she won’t be the inaugural champion is because she chose to turn down the fight. Plain and simple.
no i respectfully disagree. ufc had her in as a special attraction, refused to create a belt for her but expected her to make an even more extreme weight cut than she mormally would. she did this for money like many people would. i think the ufc are bullys
