Cub Swanson defeated Doo-Ho Choi in a fight that has been called a Fight of the Year candidate.

At the post-fight press conference, Swanson discussed how he felt about Choi going into the bout and how he hoped to dispel the notion that he is no longer a competitive fighter. “All the film I watched on him, I was a fan of his before the fight,” he said. “When he called me out, I thought it was a little disrespectful just because I felt like he only called me out because he thought I wasn’t as good as I used to be or something. It motivated me, and I was ready to come out here and prove him, and prove everyone else wrong.”

When asked how he felt about the fight and his performance, Swanson admitted he didn’t remember too much. “I didn’t get hurt that bad – my head’s clear” he said. “But it was just so chaotic, I don’t remember the fight. Everybody’s just saying how great of a fight it was. I was like, ‘I guess it was if you guys keep saying it’.”

Swanson is currently ranked fourth in the Featherweight Division and improves to 24-7.

Cervantes Analysis: Swanson had a phenomenal performance last night and usually that would warrant a title shot. Unfortunately, the division is in a bit of a flux and he has already lost decisively to both the champion and interim champion before so he may need to wait and continue to win fights before he is mentioned for a shot.
