“[I didn’t accept the fight at UFC 198 because] I was just kind of holding on to see if I could get the rematch for the belt. I’m not against fighting Cyborg. It just didn’t seem like the right time… In boxing, I fought in three weight classes. I’m not gonna say that I’m against going at 140 [lbs]. I actually think Cyborg might be able to do 135 [lbs]. Who knows? But that’s definitely something that could be an option for the future. I’m actually really happy for her victory. I really like Cyborg. I think she’s a great gal.”
-Holly Holm talks to Dave Ross of 120 Sports about why she didn’t accept a fight with Cris “Cyborg” Justino at UFC 198, but why she’s open to that fight in the future (transcribed by MMAFighting.com).
Penick’s Analysis: Holm was trying to angle for the UFC 200 rematch with Miesha Tate, so she didn’t want to take a different fight if that was a possibility. That’s understandable enough. Now, Cyborg says the only 140 lb. fights she wants to take are against Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey, but Holm also fought higher than the 145 lb. limit in the past, so she’d be an option at featherweight if that’s something she’d consider.
