After confirming that he’s re-signed with the UFC, Alistair Overeem announced on Monday that he will indeed headline the UFC’s first ever event in Rotterdam, Netherlands, an hour from his fighting home in Amsterdam.

No opponent has yet been announced, but the fight will be Overeem’s ninth inside the Octagon. He’s gone 5-3 in the UFC thus far, including wins in his last three fights before entering free agency.

Penick’s Analysis: Overeem against Andrei Arlovski or Overeem in a rematch with Travis Browne seems like the most likely options for the May 8 event, and with tickets going on sale next month we’re likely to get an announcement sometime soon. Regardless, Overeem could find himself in the title picture real soon with this new contract and another win or two in 2016, so this could be a beneficial signing all around.
