Stipe Miocic made an emphatic case for a title fight on Saturday night, stopping Andrei Arlovski in just 54 seconds at UFC 195 in Las Vegas.
The 33-year-old rocked Arlovski with a two punch combo, with his right hand punch landing behind the ear. Arlovski stumbled to the cage, and Miocic kept throwing until he went down, adding a few more strikes on the ground before the referee stepped in to halt the bout.
Miocic was passed over for a title fight due apparently not being “popular enough,” something that stuck with him through this bout, as he screamed at Dana White that he wanted his shot afterward, and addressed his popularity after that win in the post-fight interview. It’s his eighth win in the UFC, and fifth in his last six fights, with the sole loss a five round decision to Junior dos Santos in a fight most felt he won.
For Arlovski, the TKO loss was his first stoppage defeat since a run of three straight TKO losses ended in 2011, and is just his second loss in his last 13 fights.
