Jon Jones’ simple message for UFC return: “I’m gonna show you how great I am”

Jon Jones is dipping his toes back into social media after the resolution of his hit and run case. The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion went dark following the incident, and only emerged last weekend with a couple of somewhat light-hearted posts following Daniel Cormier’s win over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192.

On Saturday, he left one simple message on Twitter in his first individual post since April 18:

Jones is awaiting reinstatement from the UFC after reaching a plea deal in the hit and run case. He’s on probation for 18 months, but has been cleared to return to fighting, and will have his felony discharged following the completion of that probationary period.

Penick’s Analysis: Jones problems have mainly been of the self-inflicted variety, but he’s going to be on a path to redemption when he returns to the cage. He has to show he’s more than the mistakes he’s made, and if he comes back a better person than he was before the incidents of the last year or so, he’ll have a good chance of getting some back on his side. There’s clearly a lot of work yet to be done to make up for the actions he’s carried out, but they’re not such that he’s incapable of making that positive comeback. It’s all about his actions from here on out.
