Cain Velasquez also says he expects Fabricio Werdum rematch in Brazil in March

Though the UFC has yet to make an official announcement, the next UFC Heavyweight Championship bout is expected to take place in Brazil in March.

Former champ and challenger Cain Velasquez reiterated that date and location on Friday at a fan Q&A prior to UFC 192’s weigh-ins. That follows comments from Champ Fabricio Werdum this week that the bout is being targeted for a stadium in Curitiba.

If the event goes through as is being discussed, it will be Velasquez’s first ever fight in Brazil. For Werdum, it will be his first fight in Brazil in nearly three years, having last competed in his home country in June of 2013.

Penick’s Analysis: Whether it’s in a stadium or a smaller arena, it seems clear where and when this fight is going to happen. It’s unfortunate it’s been pushed back as far as it has, and that a division is going to be held up for as long as it will be, but there’s an end in sight. It also continues to flesh out the early schedule for the UFC, at least as far as what they’re planning.
