UFC Fight Night Review 11/7/2020

Dominat-Yan

Claudia Gadelha vs. Yan Xiaonan

Women’s Flyweight Fight

This was a very good fight for Xiaonan, she got better as it went along.   She was on her back for the majority of the first round but somehow looked impressive.  It really brings a recently revived issue into focus in UFC.  Should we automatically give the person on top the points?  The stand up game was relentles from Xiaonan, but Gadelha gave it back as good as she could.  The 2nd and 3rd rounds were completely one-sided.  Xiaonan owned this fight.

Rating: 8.5/10

Result: Unanimous Decision for Yan Xiaonan

A Georgian On My Mind

Giga Chikadze vs. Jamey Simmons

Featherweight Fight

Giga Chikadze seemed to just lure him into this.  Simmons tried to handle things as best he could, but Chikadze continued his amazing run he’s been on.  Simmons seemed to be waiting for a mistake, which was an odd call, because Giga doesn’t make those.

Look out Featherweights, Georgia sent a ringer.

Rating: 9/10

Result: 1st Round TKO

Slangin’ and Bangin’

Khalid Taha vs. Raoni Barcelos

Bantamweight Fight

This was a heavyweight fight minus 100 pounds.  These two wanted knockouts.  Everytime it seemed like Barcelos had enough to put down Taha, Taha would answer.  I don’t mean he would escape and live to fight later, I mean he would step into the punches and throw just as big of shots back.  This was a great fight. Find a replay, you won’t be mad you did.

Rating: 9/10

Result: Unanimous Decision for Raoni Barcelos

Veteran Favoritism

Andrei Arlovski vs. Tanner Boser

Heavyweight Fight

There wasn’t much to go on with this fight.  A classic Heavyweight standup slugfest, but no clear advantages were won or lost.  This one could have been called either way, but Arlovski’s headhunting ways probably put him over the edge in the judges eyes.  I think there was a little veteran favoritism here.  Boser will get his shot in the future, I have no doubts about that.

Rating: 6/10

Result: Unanimous Decision for Andrei Arlovski

Main Event

Best of Brazil

Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira

Light Heavyweight Fight

This was everything a main event was supposed to be.  Santos almost got a knockout in the 1st round, but Teixeira found a way to survive.  The 2nd round started with great ground control by Teixeira, then Santos got to his feet and knocked Texieira to the ground.  Teixiera, as you would expect, didn’t stay on bottom for long, got back to mount and worked some ground and pound.  The 2nd round ended with Teixiera nearly choking out Santos, but the horn saved him.  The 3rd round was a bit more back and forth before Teixeira got control again and locked in a choke for the submission.  Amazing fight.  Don’t stop shipping in the Brazilians Dana, it’s working.

Rating: 9.5/10

Result: 3rd Round Submission for Glover Teixeira
